A Day of Birdlife at Ifield Mill Pond

I spent a fantastic day at Ifield Mill Pond on the 8th of March, 2025, soaking in the fresh air and immersing myself in the peaceful rhythms of nature. The pond was alive with activity, offering a brilliant display of birdlife that made for both an enjoyable experience and a rewarding photography session.

As I walked along the water’s edge, I was greeted by the sight of birds gliding effortlessly across the surface, diving in search of food, and occasionally taking flight — creating moments of beauty that are a joy to witness through the lens.

One of the highlights of the day was capturing a Canada Goose paddling gracefully through the calm water. Nearby, a lively Coot zipped through the reeds with purpose, while a Cormorant soared high above, silhouetted against the sky in full flight. The ever-energetic Mallard Ducks kept things lively, while the Moorhens and elegant Mute Swans added a quieter, graceful presence to the pond.

A surprise visitor — a striking White Dove — stood out among the usual residents, offering a rare contrast in colour and form. High above, the vigilant Wood Pigeons perched on overhanging branches, calmly watching over the scene below.

Spending time observing and photographing these birds in their natural environment is always a fulfilling experience. Each visit to Ifield Mill Pond brings something new, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint.

Have a favourite from the birds I spotted? I’d love to hear which one you’re most drawn to in the comments!
