Winter Wildlife at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

There’s something magical about winter at Warnham Local Nature Reserve. The crisp air, frosted landscapes, and an abundance of wildlife make every visit an unforgettable experience. On my latest trip, I had the chance to witness some truly remarkable moments with the incredible creatures that call this reserve home.

Here are the highlights from the day:

📸 Common Reed Bunting

I had the pleasure of capturing a Common Reed Bunting delicately feeding on a bulrush. The contrast of its soft plumage against the frosted surroundings was simply breathtaking.

📸 Common Redpoll (Male)

This little bird brought a pop of color to the winter palette. Watching the vibrant male Common Redpoll dart through the branches was a joy to photograph.

📸 Coot Standing on Ice

A true balancing act! The Coot stood confidently on a sheet of ice, its reflection adding a touch of symmetry to the scene.

📸 Egyptian Goose

One of the most serene moments of the day was catching an Egyptian Goose gazing at its own reflection in the ice. It was a peaceful moment that perfectly captured the stillness of the season.

📸 Great Egret

Perched high on a treetop, the Great Egret looked regal and majestic, as if surveying its domain. Its elegant form against the winter sky was a striking sight.

📸 Great Tit

As always, the Great Tit brought lively energy to the reserve. These small, active birds never fail to brighten up any scene.

📸 Grey Heron in Flight

The Grey Heron’s graceful flight over the icy water was a true spectacle. Its long wings and effortless movements are always a treat to watch and photograph.

📸 Long-Tailed Tit

One of my favorite moments of the day was seeing a Long-Tailed Tit hanging on by just one foot as it fed. Their agility and charm always make them stand out.
