Spring Wildlife at Warnham Local Nature Reserve
There’s nothing quite like a spring day at Warnham Local Nature Reserve, and the 13th of April 2025 was no exception. The reserve was teeming with life, offering plenty of opportunities to observe and photograph some of the UK’s most fascinating wildlife.
Among the day’s highlights:
🖤 Male Blackcap – I managed to get a close-up of this charming little bird, showcasing his unmistakable black cap. A real treat to spot one up close!
🐀 Brown Rat – Often overlooked, this curious forager was seen darting through the undergrowth. Its boldness made for a surprisingly compelling photograph.
🦋 Female Orange-tip Butterfly – Resting delicately on spring blossoms, this butterfly added a perfect touch of seasonal colour. The female’s lack of orange on the wingtips made it an interesting contrast to the more commonly seen male.
🌼 Speckled Wood – One of my favourite shots of the day. Basking in a sunny patch, the Speckled Wood’s beautifully dappled pattern came to life against the green backdrop.
🌳 Treecreeper – Watching this agile bird spiral its way up a tree trunk was nothing short of mesmerizing. Their camouflaged plumage makes them a challenge to spot—let alone photograph—but worth the effort every time.
Warnham continues to be one of my go-to locations for local wildlife photography. With every visit, there’s always something new to discover. Whether you’re into birds, insects, or the simple beauty of the changing seasons, nature never disappoints here.
If you’re a fellow nature enthusiast or photographer, I highly recommend a visit. And as always, stay tuned for photos from the day—coming soon!
