Willow Emerald Damselfly at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

On the 17th of August 2025, I spent some time exploring Warnham Local Nature Reserve, one of my favourite spots for macro and wildlife photography. The summer light and still air made for perfect conditions to photograph one of the UK’s more delicate and beautiful insects — the Willow Emerald Damselfly.

These damselflies are a real treat to encounter. Their metallic green sheen catches the sunlight beautifully, revealing subtle shades of gold and bronze as they perch on willow branches near the water’s edge. Up close, the intricate wing structure and fine body details are truly mesmerising — reminders of how much beauty can be found in even the smallest corners of nature.

Capturing these moments always reminds me why I love spending time at Warnham. The reserve’s mix of ponds, woodland, and open meadow makes it a haven for dragonflies, damselflies, and countless other species that thrive during the warmer months.

If you ever get the chance to visit Warnham Local Nature Reserve, bring your camera and take your time exploring the wetland areas — you never know what tiny treasures you might discover!
