Birdlife and Action at Ifield Mill Pond

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Ifield Mill Pond is a wonderful place to spend time observing the changing activity around the water, with every visit offering something different. On 14th March 2026, I enjoyed a varied session capturing a mixture of bird behaviour, from quiet moments on the water to bursts of action in the air.

There was plenty happening throughout the visit, with Crows providing some excellent opportunities to capture birds in flight. Their strong, purposeful movements across the sky are always fascinating to watch, especially when trying to capture the detail and character of these intelligent birds.

Around the pond itself, a Coot moved steadily across the water, creating one of those peaceful moments that often go unnoticed. Nearby, a Great Crested Grebe kept a much lower profile, moving quietly across the pond but still providing an interesting subject to observe and photograph.

One of the highlights of the session was a Muscovy Duck taking off from the water. Capturing that split second as it powered upwards, wings extended and water disturbed beneath it, was a great reminder of how quickly a calm scene can turn into an exciting wildlife moment.

It was a rewarding visit with a good variety of subjects and behaviours, proving once again that even familiar locations like Ifield Mill Pond can provide great photographic opportunities when you take the time to watch and wait.
