Great Crested Grebe Carrying Chicks at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a wonderful place to observe wildlife throughout the year, and each visit can bring a special moment that makes the time spent there truly worthwhile. On 3rd May 2026, I was lucky enough to witness one of those memorable encounters during the breeding season.

One of the highlights of the day was watching a Great Crested Grebe carrying its chicks safely across the water on its back. The tiny youngsters were tucked neatly into their parent’s feathers as the adult glided gracefully across the lake, providing a perfect example of the care and protection these birds provide for their young.

Watching this behaviour first-hand is always fascinating, as it offers a glimpse into the dedication and effort that goes into raising the next generation. The patience and commitment shown by these birds during the breeding season make moments like this especially rewarding to witness and photograph.

Warnham Local Nature Reserve continues to be one of my favourite locations for wildlife photography, with every visit offering the possibility of seeing something new. Capturing natural behaviour like this through the camera lens is what makes spending time in the field so special.
