Green-eyed Flower Bee at RSPB Pulborough Brooks

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! On 25th July 2026, I spent some time at RSPB Pulborough Brooks, enjoying another opportunity to explore the reserve and photograph some of its smaller inhabitants. Sometimes it’s the tiny subjects that can provide some of the most rewarding photographic opportunities.

One of the highlights of the visit was finding a Green-eyed Flower Bee. This small bee is easily overlooked as it moves among the vegetation, but getting the opportunity to photograph one up close revealed just how much detail there is to appreciate. Its striking green eyes and beautifully marked body really stand out when viewed through the camera, transforming what might initially seem like an ordinary small insect into a fascinating photographic subject.

Photographing smaller insects can be quite a challenge, particularly when trying to capture the fine details that are easily missed with the naked eye. Getting close enough, finding the right angle and keeping the subject sharp all require patience, but the results can be incredibly rewarding when everything comes together.

Encounters like this are one of the things I enjoy most about visiting RSPB Pulborough Brooks. There is always something interesting to discover, whether it is a familiar bird or a much smaller subject hiding among the vegetation. Sometimes you just need to slow down and take a closer look.
