Male and Female Siskin at Warnham Local Nature Reserve
Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is always a fantastic place to explore throughout the year, with each visit offering the chance to encounter a variety of bird species. On 7th February 2026, a quiet morning at the reserve provided a rewarding opportunity to spend time photographing one of my favourite winter visitors.
I was lucky enough to capture both a male and female Siskin during the visit. The male immediately caught the eye with his striking yellow and black plumage, standing out beautifully in the soft morning light. The female, although more subtle in colour, possessed her own understated beauty, with delicate markings and a gentle appearance that perfectly complemented her brighter companion.
Watching the pair move through the trees and pause occasionally to feed was a real pleasure. Siskins are often active and constantly on the move, making photography a challenge at times, so it is always rewarding when they stop long enough to allow a few well-timed shots. Seeing both the male and female together also provided a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the differences in their plumage and behaviour.
Visits like this are a reminder of just how much variety Warnham Local Nature Reserve continues to offer throughout the seasons. Even on quieter days, there is always the possibility of a memorable wildlife encounter waiting just around the corner.
Thanks for reading! Be sure to explore my other wildlife adventures and photography from Warnham Local Nature Reserve and beyond. Every visit brings something new, and I look forward to sharing more moments from the field soon.
