Painted Lady at RSPB Pulborough Brooks

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! A visit to RSPB Pulborough Brooks on 25th July 2026 gave me the opportunity to photograph a beautiful Painted Lady. These striking butterflies are always a pleasure to find, particularly during the warmer summer months when the reserve’s wildflowers and vegetation provide plenty of opportunities to observe them.

This particular Painted Lady stood out beautifully against the summer vegetation, with its warm orange and brown colouring catching the light as it moved between the flowers. It spent a little time working its way from flower to flower, giving me several good opportunities to photograph it as it went about its day. Moments like this are a reminder that wildlife photography isn't always about finding rare or dramatic subjects — sometimes it's simply about slowing down and appreciating the smaller details of the natural world.

It was another enjoyable session at RSPB Pulborough Brooks, with plenty of wildlife activity keeping me busy with the camera. The reserve is always capable of producing something interesting, and encounters such as this Painted Lady make every visit worthwhile.
