Wildlife Photography at Warnham Local Nature Reserve – Summer Highlights

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Every visit to Warnham Local Nature Reserve offers something different, and that's one of the reasons I return throughout the year. On the 13th of June 2026, the reserve was full of life, with a wonderful variety of wildlife making the most of the warm summer conditions.

One of the highlights of the day was watching an Emperor Dragonfly patrolling the wetlands, constantly on the move as it defended its territory. These impressive insects are among the largest dragonflies found in the UK, and their speed makes them a rewarding challenge to photograph. Nearby, a Honey Bee was busy collecting nectar from a daisy, offering a quieter moment that contrasted beautifully with the dragonfly's energetic flight.

The reserve continued to deliver as I came across a Large Skipper butterfly resting between feeding flights, while a Red Admiral basked in the summer sunshine, allowing plenty of time to appreciate its striking colours and intricate wing patterns. Along the water's edge, a Little Egret flew gracefully across the reserve, adding another memorable photographic opportunity to the day.

Perhaps the most heart-warming sight was a small group of ducklings exploring the reserve alongside the water. Watching these young birds discovering their surroundings is always a reminder of how vibrant and full of life the reserve becomes during the breeding season.

Warnham Local Nature Reserve continues to be one of my favourite places for wildlife photography. Its mix of wetlands, woodland, and open habitats supports an incredible diversity of species, ensuring that every visit brings fresh opportunities and unexpected encounters. Whether it's birds, butterflies, dragonflies, or insects, there's always something waiting to be discovered through the lens.
