A Day at Warnham Local Nature Reserve
There are days when nature simply puts on a show, and this visit to Warnham Local Nature Reserve was one of them. From first light to the moment the rain rolled in, the reserve was alive with movement, sound, and surprise — the kind of moments every wildlife photographer dreams of capturing.
Morning on the Water
The day began with the familiar calls of Canada Geese gliding low over the lake, their reflections rippling across the calm surface. Moments later, Common Terns danced through the air with effortless grace, their sharp turns and dives keeping my lens busy.
One of the highlights came when a Coot paused just long enough to create a perfect mirror image on the water — a reminder of how stillness and motion coexist beautifully in the wild. Nearby, a juvenile Great Crested Grebe explored curiously, still learning its way through the waters of Warnham.
Midday Movement and Drama
The activity didn’t stop there. An Egyptian Goose took flight, its wings catching the light in a brief but brilliant display. Then came one of those unpredictable moments — a Grey Heron suddenly found itself under attack from a daring tern. Nature often surprises us with its power dynamics, and this was a prime example of the constant push and pull between species.
Just beyond the action, a Little Egret spread its wings in quiet elegance — the very picture of poise and contrast against the earlier chaos.
The Calm Before the Rain
As clouds gathered and the first drops began to fall, a Mallard lifted off into the grey sky, as if to mark the end of the performance. It was a fitting conclusion to a day full of life, motion, and character.
Reflections on Warnham
Every visit to Warnham Local Nature Reserve reminds me why I return again and again. The reserve offers a constantly changing canvas — one where no two days are ever the same. From quiet reflections to dramatic encounters, it’s a place that celebrates the rhythm and unpredictability of nature.
Truly magical moments — all captured through the lens.
