A Day of Flight and Light at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Spent a wonderful day at Warnham Local Nature Reserve on 20th December 2025, capturing some truly fantastic moments among the reserve’s resident birds.

The morning and afternoon were filled with activity, with a variety of species showcasing their grace and agility. A Cormorant glided effortlessly through the air, wings outstretched, while a Grey Heron soared overhead, the low winter sun highlighting its impressive wingspan. Nearby, a Mallard Duck took off from the water with effortless elegance, creating ripples that caught the soft light beautifully.

One of the highlights of the day was a male Mandarin Duck, bathed in the warm afternoon glow, its vibrant plumage standing out against the calm water. A Mute Swan also made a serene appearance, sliding smoothly across the lake in perfect contrast to the flurry of activity around it.

It was a peaceful yet energising day, filled with moments that capture the very best of Warnham — the beauty of movement, light, and wildlife coming together in harmony. Watching these birds in their natural habitat reminded me why I keep returning: there’s always something inspiring to observe and photograph, no matter the season.
