Pochard in Flight at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Spent a wonderful day at Warnham Local Nature Reserve on 20th December 2025, capturing some truly memorable moments on the water.

The highlight of the day was a pair of Pochard — both male and female — taking to the air. Watching them lift off and glide effortlessly across the lake was incredible. The autumn light catching their feathers added a beautiful glow, highlighting the male’s striking colours and the elegant form of the female.

Capturing birds in flight is always a rewarding challenge, and this pair made it a joy. Each frame reflects their grace and speed, and being able to observe their subtle interactions as they moved together added a special dimension to the session.

Days like this are a reminder of why I love spending time at Warnham. The reserve offers a perfect combination of natural beauty, wildlife activity, and fleeting moments that make wildlife photography so satisfying. Watching these Pochard in flight was a true privilege — a serene and energising encounter with nature at its finest.
