Juvenile Great Crested Grebes Practising Their Courtship Dance at Warnham

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve offered a truly special moment on the morning of 1st November 2025 — one of those encounters that really stays with you.

I was lucky enough to watch two juvenile Great Crested Grebes practising their mating dance, complete with a bit of weed-offering. Even at this young age, they mirrored the iconic adult courtship display, lifting themselves out of the water and presenting the weed to each other. It was fascinating to see such complex behaviour already taking shape.

Encounters like this are a reminder of how much wildlife behaviour you can witness when you slow down and spend time by the water. I’m sharing the photos from this moment here and hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed capturing it.

Thanks for reading, and feel free to explore more wildlife moments from Warnham Local Nature Reserve and beyond.
