A Day at Warnham Local Nature Reserve – Wildlife Photography Highlights

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is one of those places that never feels the same twice. Every visit offers something new to discover, whether it's a familiar species behaving in a different way or a chance encounter with wildlife that only lasts a few seconds. My visit on the 14th of June 2026 was no exception, with a wonderful variety of subjects to photograph throughout the day.

One of the highlights was the delicate Blue-tailed Damselfly, a beautiful insect that can often be found resting amongst the waterside vegetation. Sharing the reserve was the impressive Broad-bodied Chaser, whose powerful flight and striking colours always make it one of my favourite dragonflies to photograph. While insects provided plenty of opportunities, the birds were just as rewarding. A Kingfisher made a welcome appearance, bringing a flash of brilliant blue to the reserve, while a Little Grebe quietly explored the water. Overhead, Swifts filled the sky with their fast, effortless flight, constantly on the move as they hunted for insects.

What makes Warnham Local Nature Reserve so special is its incredible diversity. Within a single visit, it's possible to photograph everything from tiny damselflies and dragonflies to some of Britain's most iconic bird species. It's this variety that keeps drawing me back, knowing that every walk around the reserve has the potential to reveal something different.
