A Day of Wildlife Encounters at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is always a fantastic place to spend time with nature, offering a wonderful mix of habitats and opportunities to capture a wide variety of wildlife. On 26th April 2026, I spent time photographing around the water, where the reserve was full of activity both on the surface and above it.

The session produced a brilliant range of encounters, with several birds providing excellent photographic opportunities. A Common Tern was captured in flight as it moved gracefully above the water, while a Cormorant cut through the air with its powerful wingbeats. An Egyptian Goose also provided a great moment as it flew directly towards me, creating a striking close-up encounter.

Around the water’s edge, there was plenty of activity to enjoy. A Great Crested Grebe moved through the reserve, while a Kingfisher perched patiently, watching the water below in search of its next opportunity. A Moorhen worked its way through the reed margins, perfectly suited to the quiet edges of the pond. I also managed to capture a Magpie in flight and a Mallard stretching its wings, freezing that brief moment just before take-off.

It was a varied and fast-moving session, with every corner of the reserve offering something different. Days like this are a great reminder of why Warnham Local Nature Reserve remains such a rewarding location for wildlife photography, with new moments and unexpected encounters waiting every time I visit.
