A Diverse Day of Wildlife Photography at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Every visit to Warnham Local Nature Reserve offers something different, and that's one of the reasons I keep returning throughout the year. On 27th June 2026, the reserve was full of activity, providing a fantastic variety of wildlife and some memorable photographic opportunities from start to finish.

The day began with some familiar favourites, including the ever-present Aylesbury Ducks and a group of adorable Coot chicks, whose constant feeding and energetic behaviour always make for enjoyable subjects. As the morning progressed, the action moved into the air, where I was fortunate enough to capture several species in flight. A Kingfisher flashed across the reserve at incredible speed, while a graceful Little Egret, a Little Ringed Plover, and even a Magpie all provided rewarding opportunities to photograph birds in motion. Flight photography is always one of the most challenging aspects of wildlife photography, requiring patience, anticipation, and a little bit of luck, making successful images all the more satisfying.

The birds weren't the only stars of the day. Summer at Warnham also brings a wonderful variety of butterflies, and I was delighted to spend time photographing both a Marbled White and a Painted Lady. Their delicate patterns and vibrant colours provided a complete contrast to the fast-paced action of the birds, allowing for a slower, more considered approach to photography.

Days like this perfectly demonstrate why Warnham Local Nature Reserve is such a special place for wildlife photographers and nature enthusiasts alike. The diversity of species found within the reserve means that every visit has the potential to produce something different, whether it's exciting action shots, intimate wildlife portraits, or unexpected encounters with seasonal visitors. It's this variety that continues to make Warnham one of my favourite places to explore with a camera.
