Adder Encounter at RSPB Pulborough Brooks – A Hidden Spring Surprise

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! RSPB Pulborough Brooks is a fantastic place to experience the changing seasons, with a wide variety of wildlife appearing throughout the year. During my visit on 28th March 2026, I was lucky enough to have a memorable encounter with one of the UK’s most fascinating reptiles — an Adder.

Finding an Adder is always a special moment, as they are not something you come across on every visit. This individual was quietly basking in the spring sunshine, perfectly camouflaged against the surrounding vegetation. It was amazing to see just how well they blend into their environment, almost disappearing until you notice the shape and detail that gives them away.

Watching it calmly soak up the warmth was a great reminder of the importance of slowing down and taking the time to really observe what is around you. Wildlife photography is not always about chasing action; sometimes the most rewarding moments come from patience, careful searching, and appreciating the smaller details of the natural world.

This encounter was a real highlight of the day and a fantastic example of the surprises that can be found at RSPB Pulborough Brooks. Every visit offers the chance to discover something new, and this Adder sighting is definitely a moment I will remember for a long time.
