Goosander Feeding on Newts at RSPB Pulborough Brooks

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! RSPB Pulborough Brooks is a fantastic reserve for observing a wide variety of birdlife, and every visit has the potential to reveal something unexpected. On 28th March 2026, I was lucky enough to witness and photograph a fascinating moment of natural behaviour that I won’t forget.

During my visit, I watched a Goosander actively feeding in the shallow waters. This was a particularly special encounter as I was able to see her catching and eating newts, giving me a rare glimpse into the feeding behaviour of this impressive diving duck. Watching her move with such skill and focus as she searched beneath the surface was incredible, highlighting the adaptations that make Goosanders such effective underwater hunters.

Wildlife photography is often about patience and being in the right place at the right time. Moments like this are a perfect reminder that nature can always surprise you, even in familiar locations. RSPB Pulborough Brooks continues to be a rewarding place to visit, with every trip offering the chance to discover something new.
