Banded Demoiselles in Flight at Bushy Park – A First Visit

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! A first visit to Bushy Park on 19th July 2026 proved to be a fantastic experience, with the park offering a wonderful mix of habitats and wildlife opportunities. One of the highlights of the day was the chance to spend time photographing Banded Demoiselles as they moved gracefully along the riverbank.

These elegant damselflies are always a challenging subject to photograph. Their quick movements, sudden changes of direction, and delicate flight patterns make capturing them in the air a real test of patience and timing. After spending some time observing their behaviour, I was able to capture both the striking metallic blue-black males and the beautiful green females as they moved through the vegetation and across the water’s edge.

Photographing insects in flight requires careful observation, quick reactions, and plenty of patience, but it is always rewarding when everything comes together and you capture that perfect moment. The colours and delicate details of these damselflies make them a truly fascinating subject, and seeing them in their natural surroundings was a memorable part of my first visit to Bushy Park.

This visit has certainly given me a reason to return, as Bushy Park looks like a location full of wildlife possibilities waiting to be discovered. I’m already looking forward to exploring more of the area and seeing what other photographic opportunities it has to offer.
