Wildlife Photography Highlights from My First Visit to Bushy Park
Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! On 19th July 2026, I made my first visit to Bushy Park, and it turned out to be a fantastic morning exploring a new location. The park offered a wonderful variety of wildlife, with plenty of opportunities to photograph everything from insects and butterflies to birds and the iconic Red Deer that call this area home.
One of the highlights of the morning was a split-second encounter with a Jersey Tiger Moth in flight. As it suddenly took off, I only had a brief moment to react and capture a quick grab shot. These unexpected moments are always some of the most rewarding in wildlife photography, where being ready and patient can make the difference between missing the shot and capturing something special.
A Mistle Thrush was much more cooperative, giving me the chance to photograph it perched on a grassy mound in the soft early morning light. I also found an Oak Bush Cricket sitting nicely on a stick, providing a great opportunity to capture the smaller details of the park’s wildlife. Another highlight was discovering a Purple Hairstreak, a beautiful and often overlooked butterfly species that is always a pleasure to see.
The famous Red Deer of Bushy Park were another memorable sight during the visit. One individual stood proudly among the dry summer grass, blending perfectly into the warm colours of the landscape and creating a wonderful natural portrait. To finish the morning, a Small Skipper feeding amongst the wildflowers provided another colourful subject and a perfect ending to my first exploration of the park.
For a first visit, Bushy Park certainly did not disappoint. The variety of habitats and wildlife make it a fantastic location for photography, and it is definitely somewhere I would like to return to in the future to discover more of what this impressive park has to offer.
