Bank Vole at Warnham Local Nature Reserve – A Charming Woodland Encounter

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a place that always offers the chance of a special encounter, from the larger birds that call the reserve home to the smaller creatures that often go unnoticed. During my visit on 3rd April 2026, I was delighted to spend some time photographing one of the reserve’s more secretive residents — a charming Bank Vole.

These tiny mammals are full of character but can be surprisingly difficult to spot as they move quietly through the undergrowth. This little Bank Vole gave me a wonderful opportunity, pausing just long enough for a few photographs before continuing on its way. With its warm brown fur, rounded ears, and bright, curious eyes, it perfectly captured the charm of these often-overlooked woodland animals.

Moments like this are a reminder that wildlife photography is not always about finding the rarest species — sometimes the most rewarding encounters come from simply taking the time to observe the smaller details of nature. A single visit to Warnham Local Nature Reserve can reveal an incredible variety of wildlife, and you never quite know what might appear.
