Wildlife Highlights at RSPB Pulborough Brooks – A Day of Seasonal Encounters

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! RSPB Pulborough Brooks is a fantastic reserve that always offers the chance to discover something new, with a variety of habitats supporting an incredible range of wildlife throughout the year. On 29th March 2026, I spent a rewarding day exploring the reserve, capturing a selection of seasonal species and enjoying the different behaviours taking place across the landscape.

One of the highlights of the visit was watching a Carrion Crow in flight, showing the power and character of this intelligent bird as it moved across the sky. I also came across a female Adder making its way quietly through the vegetation, a special sight as these reptiles begin becoming more active with the arrival of spring. Along the water’s edge, a Common Redshank was busy foraging, carefully searching for food in the shallows with its distinctive feeding behaviour.

The reserve also provided some excellent opportunities to capture more elusive species, including a well-camouflaged Common Snipe blending into its surroundings. Finding birds like this is always rewarding, as their incredible camouflage makes them easy to overlook unless you take the time to carefully scan the habitat.

Other memorable encounters from the day included a close-up of a Dunnock, a male Pheasant standing proudly in the open field, and a Rook captured in flight against the sky. Each species offered something different, from quiet moments of detail to dynamic behaviour and movement.

Visits like this are a great reminder of how much wildlife can be found within a single reserve. From birds in flight and feeding behaviour to reptiles emerging in spring, RSPB Pulborough Brooks continues to provide wonderful opportunities for wildlife photography throughout the seasons.
