Carrion Crow Cooling Down at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a location that always offers something interesting to observe, and even the most familiar species can reveal fascinating behaviour when you take the time to watch closely. On 24th May 2026, the warm weather created the perfect conditions for witnessing some unusual activity from one of the reserve’s common residents.

I spent some time watching a Carrion Crow making the most of the water to cool down in the heat of the day. It splashed around enthusiastically, sending droplets flying in every direction as it bathed and refreshed itself. After enjoying the water, the crow paused briefly before launching into flight, creating a fantastic opportunity to capture the movement and energy of the moment.

Encounters like this are a great reminder that wildlife photography is not always about finding rare species — often the most rewarding images come from observing the everyday behaviours of birds and animals around us. By slowing down, watching carefully, and waiting for the right moment, even a familiar species like the Carrion Crow can provide a memorable photographic experience.
