Chiffchaff Singing Among the Gorse at RSPB Pulborough Brooks

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Spring is always an exciting time to be out exploring the UK’s nature reserves, as returning migrants begin to arrive and familiar seasonal sounds fill the countryside once again. During my visit to RSPB Pulborough Brooks on 11th April 2026, I was delighted to capture a beautiful moment with one of spring’s most recognisable small birds.

A Chiffchaff was perched among the gorse, singing its familiar repetitive song and announcing the arrival of the new season. These tiny warblers are full of character, and although they can often be heard before they are seen, this individual gave me a wonderful opportunity to photograph it as it sat surrounded by the bright yellow gorse flowers.

The combination of the singing bird, colourful spring vegetation, and soft seasonal light created a memorable wildlife photography moment. Encounters like this are a perfect reminder of how much life returns to our countryside as winter fades and spring gets fully underway.

RSPB Pulborough Brooks continues to be a fantastic location for bird photography, offering a rich variety of habitats and the chance to experience some of the UK’s most special seasonal wildlife moments.
