Common Terns Bathing at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is one of my favourite places to spend time behind the camera, with every visit offering something different to observe and photograph. On 13th June 2026, I enjoyed a peaceful session watching a group of Common Terns as they went about one of their essential daily routines.

Rather than witnessing their spectacular fishing dives, I had the opportunity to photograph the terns as they bathed in the water. It was fascinating to watch them splash enthusiastically, dip beneath the surface, and carefully clean and preen their feathers. These quieter moments reveal a different side to their behaviour, showing just how important bathing is for maintaining healthy plumage and keeping their feathers in top condition for flight.

Although Common Terns are often admired for their speed and agility as they hunt, taking time to observe them at rest can be just as rewarding. Their graceful movements, elegant posture, and delicate interactions with the water made for a series of photographs that capture a more relaxed side of these beautiful birds.

Warnham Local Nature Reserve continues to be one of my favourite wildlife locations, not only because of the variety of species it attracts but also because every visit has the potential to reveal something new. Whether it's dramatic action or peaceful behavioural moments like these, there's always another story waiting to unfold.
