Common Terns Fishing and a Great Crested Grebe with a Catch at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a location that always seems to deliver something special, with every visit bringing new opportunities to observe and photograph the incredible wildlife that calls the reserve home. My visit on 9th May 2026 was no exception, with some fantastic moments unfolding throughout the day.

One of the highlights was watching the Common Terns expertly fishing over the water. Their ability to hover effortlessly before plunging down to catch their prey is always impressive to witness. Capturing these moments in flight is a real test of timing and patience, but seeing their precision and agility up close makes the challenge worthwhile.

I was also fortunate to photograph a Great Crested Grebe successfully catching a fish. These elegant waterbirds are always a pleasure to watch, and seeing the moment of a successful hunt provided a fascinating insight into their daily lives and behaviour. Moments like this show the importance of spending time observing wildlife, as patience often leads to some of the most rewarding encounters.

Days like this are a reminder of why Warnham Local Nature Reserve is such a special place for wildlife photography. From dramatic fishing displays to quieter moments of natural behaviour, every visit offers something different and the chance to capture another story from the natural world.
