Coot Chicks at Warnham Local Nature Reserve – Early Moments of Wetland Life

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a place I regularly return to, and each visit offers the chance to witness fascinating moments from the natural world. On 28th June 2026, I spent time photographing one of the reserve’s most charming sights — Coot chicks exploring their surroundings.

These young birds are always wonderful to watch, with their fluffy feathers, bright orange-red markings, and endless energy as they follow their parents around the water. Watching them interact with their parents, especially when food is being delivered, gives a great insight into the early stages of their lives and the challenges they face as they grow.

Photographing young wildlife is always rewarding, as these moments are often brief and constantly changing. The curiosity of the chicks, combined with the dedication of the adult birds, creates wonderful opportunities to capture natural behaviour and tell the story of life in the wetlands.

Warnham Local Nature Reserve continues to provide fantastic opportunities for wildlife photography throughout the year. From breeding birds and seasonal visitors to the smaller details often missed, every visit brings new subjects, new experiences, and memorable encounters with nature.
