Brimstone, Cinnabar Moth Caterpillar and Large Skipper at RSPB Pulborough Brooks

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! RSPB Pulborough Brooks is a fantastic place to explore the quieter side of nature, and my visit on 28th June 2026 was all about discovering the smaller creatures that are often overlooked. The grasslands and wildflower areas were full of life, offering plenty of opportunities to slow down, observe, and capture some of the incredible details found in the natural world.

During the session, I was able to photograph a beautiful Brimstone butterfly, a colourful Cinnabar Moth caterpillar, and a Large Skipper butterfly. Each species offered something different, showcasing the incredible variety of wildlife that can be found when you take the time to look closely.

The bright yellow flash of the Brimstone moving through the vegetation was a wonderful sight, while the striking black and orange markings of the Cinnabar Moth caterpillar made for a fascinating subject. The delicate details and patterns of the Large Skipper butterfly were another reminder of just how much beauty can be found in even the smallest corners of the landscape.

Visits like this highlight why exploring different habitats is so rewarding. While birds often take centre stage, the smaller insects and invertebrates play an equally important role in the story of our countryside. Taking the time to slow down and appreciate these species can reveal a whole new world of wildlife photography opportunities.

RSPB Pulborough Brooks continues to be a wonderful location for connecting with nature and discovering the incredible diversity of wildlife found across the UK countryside.
