Hairy-Footed Flower Bee at Warnham Local Nature Reserve – A Close Look at an Early Spring Visitor

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a place that always rewards patience and careful observation, with each season bringing new species and photographic opportunities. On 26th April 2026, I spent time exploring the reserve and focusing on one of my favourite early spring visitors — the Hairy-Footed Flower Bee.

These small but energetic bees are fascinating to watch, constantly moving between flowers with incredible speed and precision. Their quick movements and hovering behaviour make them a real challenge to photograph, but that is also what makes capturing them so rewarding. Taking the time to observe them closely reveals just how much activity is happening among the flowers and hedgerows, even when the reserve may appear quiet at first glance.

With good light and plenty of opportunities to slow down, this was a brilliant photography session focused on the smaller details of the natural world. Macro photography has a wonderful way of revealing moments that are often overlooked — from the delicate features of an insect to the important role these pollinators play within the ecosystem.

Warnham Local Nature Reserve continues to be one of my favourite places to photograph wildlife, offering endless opportunities to discover something new with every visit. It’s sessions like this that remind me why spending time observing the smaller creatures around us can be just as rewarding as photographing larger species.
