Harbour Seal at Pagham Harbour – A Coastal Wildlife Encounter

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! The UK coastline offers some incredible opportunities to witness and photograph wildlife, and Pagham Harbour is one of those special places where unexpected encounters can make a visit truly memorable. On 16th May 2026, I spent some time exploring this beautiful coastal habitat and was delighted to discover a Harbour Seal resting along the shoreline.

Seeing these remarkable marine mammals in their natural environment is always a special experience. Harbour Seals are perfectly adapted to life around our coasts, regularly hauling out onto mudflats and sandbanks to rest between feeding trips. Watching this individual lying peacefully along the shoreline provided a wonderful opportunity to observe its behaviour while also capturing some images of this impressive species.

Pagham Harbour is a fantastic location for wildlife photography, with its mix of lagoons, mudflats, saltmarsh, and coastal habitats supporting a wide variety of birds and other wildlife throughout the year. Encounters like this highlight just how rewarding time spent exploring these environments can be, as you never quite know what might appear.

Moments like this are a reminder of the incredible wildlife found around the UK's coastal habitats and the importance of protecting these special places for future generations of wildlife and nature enthusiasts.
