Kingfisher Flying Low Over the Water at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is always a great place to spend time photographing Kingfishers, and on 22nd August 2026 I had another opportunity to capture one of these beautiful birds in action.

I spent some time watching a Kingfisher as it came flying in low over the water. I particularly liked this moment, with the Kingfisher skimming just above the surface while the green reeds were reflected in the water below. Those reflections added a lovely splash of colour to the image and helped create a real sense of the environment the Kingfisher was moving through.

Photographing these low-level approaches can be quite challenging. The Kingfisher moves incredibly quickly, and keeping it in the frame as it flies towards you requires plenty of concentration, timing and quick reactions. There is very little time to make adjustments once the bird has committed to its flight path, so being ready for the moment is essential.

This was another great opportunity to photograph one of my favourite birds at Warnham Local Nature Reserve. It’s moments like this, where the bird, movement and surroundings all come together, that make the challenges of wildlife photography so rewarding.
