Kingfisher Hovering Above the Water at Warnham Local Nature Reserve
Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a place that continues to provide incredible opportunities to observe and photograph wildlife, and my visit on 23rd May 2026 delivered one of those truly special moments that stays with you long after you leave.
I was lucky enough to capture one of my favourite wildlife encounters so far — a Kingfisher hovering just above the water. Seeing these beautiful birds suspended in mid-air is always an amazing sight, almost appearing motionless for a brief moment as they carefully scan below for their next meal before dropping back towards the water.
Capturing this behaviour is both challenging and rewarding, as the timing has to be perfect and the opportunity can disappear in an instant. On this occasion, the light came together beautifully, allowing me to freeze a moment of pure natural behaviour and showcase the incredible skill and precision of this remarkable bird.
Watching a Kingfisher hunting in its natural environment is always a privilege, but being able to photograph such a unique piece of behaviour in real time makes the experience even more memorable. Moments like this are exactly why I continue to spend time in the field, waiting patiently for those special encounters with wildlife.
Thanks for reading! Be sure to explore my other wildlife adventures and photography from Warnham Local Nature Reserve and beyond. Every visit brings something new, and I look forward to sharing more moments from the field soon.
