Kingfisher in Flight with a Fish at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is one of my favourite locations for capturing the beauty and behaviour of UK wildlife, and my visit on 24th May 2026 delivered one of those unforgettable moments that every wildlife photographer hopes for.

After spending time carefully watching the Kingfisher’s behaviour, I was fortunate enough to capture an incredible sequence as it took flight with a fish firmly held in its bill. These stunning birds are renowned for their speed and agility, often appearing and disappearing in an instant. Capturing a moment like this requires patience, careful observation, and being ready when the opportunity finally arrives.

Watching a Kingfisher hunt is always a special experience, but seeing it successfully catch and carry away its meal provides a fascinating insight into their daily lives. Moments like this are a reminder that wildlife photography is not just about taking a photograph — it’s about understanding behaviour, waiting for the right opportunity, and being present when nature creates something truly special.

Warnham Local Nature Reserve continues to be one of my favourite places for wildlife photography, offering endless opportunities to witness remarkable behaviour from the many species that call it home. It’s encounters like this that make every early start, long wait, and quiet moment in the hide completely worthwhile.
