Little Egret Landing at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a location I return to regularly, and every visit offers the opportunity to capture something different. On 25th July 2026, I spent some time photographing a Little Egret, with one particular sequence providing a great opportunity to capture the bird in flight.

One of the highlights was watching the Little Egret come in low over the water as it prepared to land. With its wings spread wide and its legs beginning to drop, there was only a brief window in which to capture the moment as the bird slowed down and prepared to touch down. These moments can happen very quickly, making timing an important part of photographing birds in flight.

Little Egrets can be surprisingly quick and agile in the air, so following the bird as it approached gave me the opportunity to capture a sequence showing both its movement and the fine details of its plumage. Photographing a bird during these transitional moments, rather than simply when it is perched or standing, can produce some of the most interesting images.

It was another enjoyable wildlife photography session at Warnham Local Nature Reserve, and a reminder that even familiar locations can continue to provide new opportunities when you take the time to watch what is happening around you.
