Little Ringed Plover at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a place that continues to surprise me with the variety of wildlife it supports, and every visit offers the possibility of a memorable encounter. On 23rd May 2026, I was delighted to spend some time photographing a Little Ringed Plover, a small and fascinating wader that always makes a visit special.

These charming little birds are a pleasure to watch, with their distinctive yellow eye-ring, delicate features, and energetic movements as they search for food along the water’s edge. This individual was busy exploring the mud and shallow water, carefully probing the area for insects and other small prey. Watching its behaviour and capturing those small moments of activity provided some wonderful photographic opportunities.

Little Ringed Plovers are always a rewarding species to encounter, and being able to observe one at Warnham Local Nature Reserve was a real highlight. The reserve continues to prove what a fantastic location it is for wildlife photography, with its mix of habitats attracting a wide range of birds and other wildlife throughout the year.

Moments like this are a reminder that incredible wildlife experiences can often be found close to home. With patience, time spent outdoors, and a little luck, every visit can bring a new story to capture.
