Marsh Frogs Calling at Warnham Local Nature Reserve – A Spring Wildlife Encounter

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a wonderful place to experience the changing seasons and the incredible variety of wildlife that can be found throughout the year. On 19th April 2026, I spent some time exploring the reserve and was treated to a fantastic display from the marsh frogs around one of the ponds.

The air was filled with their distinctive croaking as the frogs called to each other from across the water. What started as a peaceful chorus would occasionally burst into activity, with frogs chasing each other around the pond in sudden bursts of speed before quickly disappearing back into the surrounding vegetation.

Watching this behaviour unfold was fascinating, and it was a real pleasure to capture these moments with my camera. The warmer spring weather had clearly brought the frogs to life, with plenty of activity around the pond as they interacted and responded to each other. It’s always rewarding to witness these small but important moments in nature that often go unnoticed.

Encounters like this are a great reminder of how much wildlife can be found in familiar places if you take the time to slow down, observe, and listen. Even a quiet pond at a local nature reserve can reveal incredible behaviour and offer fantastic photographic opportunities.
