Muscovy Duck Stretching Its Wings at Ifield Mill Pond

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Ifield Mill Pond is a wonderful local wetland location that continues to provide opportunities to capture the everyday moments and behaviours of the birds that call these habitats home. During my visit on 14th June 2026, I captured a simple but rewarding moment with a Muscovy Duck.

While watching the birds, I caught this Muscovy Duck during a brief burst of movement as it flapped and stretched its wings. These small moments of natural behaviour are often some of the most enjoyable to photograph, as they reveal the character and personality of the wildlife around us.

Wing stretches, preening, feeding, and other everyday actions may seem simple, but they are an important part of a bird’s daily routine. Capturing these behaviours helps tell a story beyond just a portrait, showing the natural rhythm and energy of the species we share our local wetlands with.

Moments like this are a reminder that great wildlife photography is not always about rare sightings — sometimes the most rewarding images come from taking the time to observe and appreciate the familiar wildlife around us.
