Great Crested Grebe with Chick at Ifield Mill Pond
Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Ifield Mill Pond is a wonderful location for observing and photographing wildlife, and on 14th June 2026 I was lucky enough to witness one of those special moments that makes spending time outdoors so rewarding.
I spent some time watching a Great Crested Grebe family, capturing one of my favourite wildlife encounters — a young chick safely riding on the back of its parent. The adults were incredibly attentive, carefully looking after their young, feeding the chick and guiding it through the early stages of life.
Watching bird families is always fascinating, but moments like this really highlight the dedication and patience shown by wildlife parents. The quiet interactions between the adults and their chick are a reminder of why patience, respect, and careful observation are such important parts of wildlife photography.
Encounters like this are what make visits to places like Ifield Mill Pond so special. By allowing wildlife to behave naturally and undisturbed, we get the opportunity to witness these incredible moments and capture a small glimpse into their daily lives.
Thanks for reading! Be sure to explore my other wildlife adventures and photography from Ifield Mill Pond and beyond. Every visit brings something new, and I look forward to sharing more moments from the field soon.
