Painted Lady Butterfly at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve continues to be one of my favourite places for wildlife photography, offering incredible opportunities to observe and capture a wide variety of species throughout the year. On 30th May 2026, I spent some time exploring the reserve and was delighted to discover a beautiful Painted Lady butterfly.

One of the highlights of the visit was capturing this stunning butterfly in flight. Photographing butterflies on the wing is always a rewarding challenge, as they rarely stay still for long and their unpredictable movements make every opportunity unique. After some patience, I was able to capture the Painted Lady as it moved between flowers, showcasing its delicate flight and natural behaviour.

The butterfly also provided a chance to capture some of the finer details of its beautiful wing patterns, with the striking combination of orange, black, and white markings standing out perfectly. These small details are what make macro and close-up wildlife photography so fascinating — revealing a level of beauty that can often go unnoticed.

Warnham Local Nature Reserve continues to be a fantastic location for discovering and photographing wildlife, with every visit bringing new encounters and opportunities. It is always a pleasure to spend time observing these incredible insects and appreciating the important role they play within our natural environment.
