Golden-Bloomed Grey Longhorn – Macro Photography at Woods Mill

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! While visiting Woods Mill on 30th May 2026, I had the perfect opportunity to slow down and explore the smaller side of nature through macro photography. Although many visits are focused on birds and larger wildlife, some of the most rewarding encounters can come from looking much closer at the world around us.

During the visit, I came across a Golden-bloomed Grey Longhorn, a fascinating longhorn beetle often found on flowers during late spring and early summer. These distinctive beetles feed on pollen and nectar, and their presence is a wonderful reminder of the incredible variety of invertebrate life found in our natural spaces.

Photographing this tiny subject revealed a level of detail that is easy to overlook — from its intricate patterns and delicate colouring to its incredibly long antennae. Macro photography gives us the chance to appreciate these small creatures in a completely different way, showing features that are almost impossible to see with the naked eye.

Moments like this are why I enjoy exploring all aspects of wildlife photography. Whether it’s a bird in flight or a tiny beetle hidden among the vegetation, every encounter offers something unique and a chance to capture the beauty of the natural world.
