Ring-Necked Parakeets at Sunset – An Evening at Ifield Mill Pond
Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Ifield Mill Pond is a fantastic location for observing wildlife throughout the year, and sometimes the most rewarding moments come when you stay a little longer and watch the day slowly come to an end. On the evening of 17th July 2026, the setting sun created the perfect backdrop for a memorable encounter with one of the UK’s most colourful introduced species.
As the sun began to set, the evening sky came alive with the calls of Ring-Necked Parakeets as they returned to their overnight roost. These vibrant green birds arrived in small groups, flying across the landscape with their bright plumage standing out beautifully against the warm tones of the fading light.
Capturing birds in flight is always a challenge, especially as the available light begins to disappear, but the combination of movement, colour, and atmosphere made this a particularly rewarding photography opportunity. Watching them gather before settling down for the night was a wonderful reminder of the fascinating behaviours that can be witnessed when you take the time to observe.
Ifield Mill Pond continues to provide some excellent wildlife photography opportunities throughout the seasons, from birds and insects to unexpected encounters like this. Evenings like this show that there is always something special waiting to be discovered if you stay a little longer.
Thanks for reading! Be sure to explore my other wildlife adventures and photography from Ifield Mill Pond and beyond. Every visit brings new opportunities, and I look forward to sharing more moments from the field soon.
