Swallows in Flight at RSPB Pulborough Brooks

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! On 22nd August 2026, I spent some time at RSPB Pulborough Brooks, where the clear blue sky provided the perfect backdrop for photographing Swallows in flight. With plenty of open sky around them, there was nothing to distract from these fast and agile little birds as they went about their day.

Swallows are such enjoyable birds to photograph, but keeping them in the frame as they twist, turn and suddenly change direction at speed is definitely a challenge. Their flight is incredibly unpredictable, and just when you think you have one lined up perfectly, they can be heading in a completely different direction.

The clear blue sky made this visit particularly enjoyable, as it allowed me to concentrate purely on the Swallows and their movement through the air. It was a great opportunity to work on timing and tracking, waiting for those moments when everything came together and I managed to capture them at their best.

I always enjoy photographing birds in flight, and Swallows certainly know how to put those skills to the test. They may be small, fast and difficult to track, but that only makes capturing a successful image even more rewarding.
