Swallows in Flight at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is always full of life, and each season brings new opportunities to capture the changing wildlife around the reserve. On 12th April 2026, I spent some time by the lake watching one of spring’s most exciting arrivals — Swallows returning and bringing the skies to life.

As the evening light settled over the reserve, the Swallows were busy skimming low across the water, expertly catching insects in mid-flight. Their incredible speed, agility, and constant movement made them a real challenge to photograph, with every pass offering a new test of timing and focus. Watching them twist and turn just above the surface was a fantastic reminder of the skill and precision these small birds possess.

Capturing Swallows in flight is always a rewarding experience, especially when you manage to freeze a moment of such fast and unpredictable movement. The combination of warm evening light, the reflections on the lake, and the energy of the birds made this a memorable visit to Warnham Local Nature Reserve.

Moments like this highlight just how much activity can be found around the reserve throughout the year. Even a simple visit to the lake can reveal incredible behaviour and remind us of the amazing wildlife that shares these habitats.
