Wildlife Highlights at Ifield Mill Pond – Birds in Flight and Small Natural Details

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Ifield Mill Pond is always a rewarding location to visit, offering a great mix of birdlife, water habitats, and smaller natural details waiting to be discovered. On 25th April 2026, I spent time exploring the area and capturing a variety of wildlife moments, from birds in action to the quieter details found around the pond.

One of the highlights of the session was capturing a Canada Goose in flight and an Egyptian Goose in flight, both showing impressive movement as they travelled across the water. Photographing birds in flight is always a challenge, requiring quick reactions and good timing, but these moments provide some of the most rewarding images.

The session also produced some great behaviour shots, including a Great Crested Grebe caught mid head shake, creating a dynamic moment that showed the character and energy of this beautiful waterbird. Alongside this, a male Mallard and a Moorhen provided opportunities to capture the more familiar residents of the pond as they moved through the water and surrounding reeds.

Away from the larger wildlife, one of the quieter highlights came from the smaller details around the pond. Dew collected on a spider’s web created a beautiful natural scene, reflecting the early conditions and showing how even the smallest subjects can make memorable photographic moments.

It was a really enjoyable session at Ifield Mill Pond, with a wonderful balance of action, behaviour, and close-up details. Visits like this are a reminder that there is always something worth photographing, whether it is a dramatic moment on the water or a small piece of nature hidden in plain sight.
