A Day with the Great Crested Grebe at Warnham Local Nature Reserve
On the 14th of September 2025, I had the pleasure of spending a truly memorable day at Warnham Local Nature Reserve. My focus for the day was the remarkable Great Crested Grebe, a bird renowned for its fishing skills and graceful presence on the water.
Watching the Great Crested Grebe in action was a lesson in persistence and skill. Time and again, the birds would dive beneath the surface, emerging moments later with a fish clutched firmly in their beaks. Their determination and precision never fail to impress, and capturing these moments through photography is always a rewarding challenge.
The conditions on the day were ideal — soft light and shimmering reflections across the water added an extra layer of beauty to each shot. It was one of those rare days where patience truly paid off, allowing me to witness and photograph the Great Crested Grebe in its natural element.
Below are some of my favourite captures from the day, highlighting the Great Crested Grebe doing what it does best: fishing, diving, and moving gracefully across the water. Moments like these are a wonderful reminder of the beauty and complexity of wildlife right here in the UK.
