A Wildlife-Filled Day at Warnham Local Nature Reserve
There are days in wildlife photography that simply stay with you—and my visit to Warnham Local Nature Reserve on 11/10/2025 was one of them. From the first light of morning to the quiet moments before heading home, the reserve offered an incredible variety of species, behaviour, and photographic opportunities.
A Peaceful Start on the Water
The day began with a beautifully calm scene: a Black Swan gliding effortlessly across the still water. Moments later, a Cormorant appeared, soaking up the soft autumn sunlight as it perched nearby. The reflections and warm tones made for an ideal start to the morning.
Autumn Details in the Webs
While exploring the paths, I came across a Garden Spider that had crafted an intricate web. The way the light hit the strands showcased the precision of its design—one of those small but spectacular autumn details that often go unnoticed.
A Rare Steady Moment with a Kingfisher
One of the highlights of any visit to Warnham is spotting a Kingfisher, and on this particular morning I was fortunate enough to capture one perched perfectly on a branch. It stayed still just long enough for a clean, sharp photograph—always a rewarding moment.
Activity on the Water: Little Grebes at Work
The Little Grebes were especially busy, with one surfacing triumphantly with a fish while another drifted quietly through the reeds. Their constant movement and fishing behaviour brought plenty of life to the water.
Fast Movers and Splashes of Colour
A Magpie shot past carrying a nut, offering a quick, dynamic opportunity for in-flight photography. Later, a Northern Shoveler added another splash of colour to the day, its distinctive plumage standing out against the autumn backdrop.
A Magical Encounter with a Roe Deer
The most unforgettable moment came when a Roe Deer stepped calmly into view. Peaceful, alert, and perfectly composed in its surroundings, it provided a rare and magical encounter—one of those scenes that make hours in the field worthwhile.
Reflecting on a Memorable Day
The variety of sightings and the sense of calm throughout the day reminded me why Warnham Local Nature Reserve is such an exceptional place for wildlife photography. I left feeling grateful not only for the species I encountered but also for the atmosphere and beauty that Warnham consistently provides.
If you enjoy wildlife photography, nature walks, or simply discovering the seasonal changes in UK wildlife, Warnham is always worth a visit—especially during the vibrant autumn months.
