Siskins at Warnham Local Nature Reserve – A Winter Highlight
Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a brilliant location year-round, and on 21st February 2026 it delivered a fantastic winter visit filled with subtle colour and constant movement across the reserve.
One of the highlights of the day was spending time observing both male and female Siskins as they flitted through the branches. Their lively behaviour brought real energy to the winter landscape, with flashes of bright yellow-green from the males contrasting beautifully against the more muted tones of the season. Even the females, with their softer colouring, added to the scene as they moved quickly through the canopy in search of food.
Siskins are always a joy to watch up close — small, active, and full of character — and this visit offered plenty of opportunities to observe their behaviour as they fed and interacted in the trees. Moments like these are a reminder that even in the quieter winter months, reserves like Warnham are full of life if you take the time to look closely.
Thanks for reading! Be sure to explore my other wildlife adventures and photography from reserves across the UK. Every visit brings something different, and I look forward to sharing more moments from the field soon.
