Adders Basking in the Spring Sunshine at RSPB Pulborough Brooks

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! RSPB Pulborough Brooks is a fantastic place to experience the changing seasons, and my visit on 21st March 2026 was a wonderful reminder of just how much life begins to emerge as spring arrives. With the early sunshine bringing warmth to the reserve, it was the perfect morning to slow down, explore, and look closely at the wildlife around me.

One of the highlights of the visit was discovering several Adders basking in the first light of the day. With the chill of early spring still lingering in the air, these fascinating reptiles were taking full advantage of the warmth, resting quietly as they absorbed the sunlight. Their intricate patterns, textures, and markings were incredible to see up close, offering a fantastic opportunity to appreciate the beauty of one of the UK’s most secretive reptiles.

Seeing Adders out in the open is always a special experience. They are shy and often well hidden, so moments like this reward patience and careful observation. Watching them slowly warm up in the morning sun was a peaceful reminder of the incredible wildlife that can be found when we take the time to pause and look more closely.

It was a calm and memorable start to the day at RSPB Pulborough Brooks, highlighting how much is happening in nature even in the quieter moments. Every visit brings new discoveries, and it’s encounters like these that make wildlife photography so rewarding.
