Spotted Flycatcher at RSPB Pulborough Brooks – A Summer Wildlife Encounter

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! RSPB Pulborough Brooks is always a rewarding place to visit, offering a wonderful variety of habitats and the chance to encounter some of the UK’s most interesting bird species. On 28th June 2026, I spent time photographing one of our more elusive summer visitors — the beautiful Spotted Flycatcher.

These elegant little birds are always a pleasure to see, especially when they display their characteristic behaviour of perching quietly before suddenly launching into the air to catch insects in mid-flight. Watching them patiently wait for the perfect opportunity before making a rapid aerial dash is fascinating, and capturing those brief moments requires plenty of patience, observation, and timing.

Photographing a Spotted Flycatcher is always a rewarding challenge. Their subtle movements and quick bursts of activity mean that the best opportunities often come when you least expect them. Waiting quietly and allowing the bird to become comfortable can make all the difference when trying to capture these special moments.

RSPB Pulborough Brooks once again provided a fantastic setting for wildlife photography, with its diverse habitats supporting a wide range of birds and other wildlife throughout the year. Encounters like this are a great reminder of why spending time in nature is so rewarding.
